RopeMarks on Television

I joined two other guests on the talk show Smaakmakers XL to talk about BDSM and kink. My contribution focused on bondage and kinbaku, and I also gave a short bondage demonstration.

During Eurix in 2017 we participated in an item for the German television program Abendshow. The item was about Felix Ruckert, Eurix and the event itself. Our part was a short interview and a Denki-ryu suspension.

Coverage around kinbaku safety had become increasingly distorted as it moved through international media.

RTL 4 picked up the story for RTL Boulevard. We were not allowed to speak on-air, but our background input helped move the item away from its original framing and toward a somewhat more accurate view of kinbaku.

Fijne Vrienden went live on YouTube and the Ziggo channel for the first time. RopeMarks was invited to participate in this premiere edition as one of the show’s featured guests.

Wasteland’s 20 year anniversary included a live RopeMarks Japanese bondage installation that lasted for three hours, set up in cooperation with a number of Dutch and Japanese rope artists.

BNN was there for Spuiten en Slikken to capture the event and let RopeMarks have some playtime with the host, Gwen.

After recording the episode a picture with the entire crew was made.

We spent the day making new friends with George and Veras, which is the concept of the television program Fijne Vrienden. A small rope shoot was part of the episode.

Kamikaze TV was a one-off Dutch program about Japan and how aspects of Japanese culture can be perceived as strange in the West. Material we had shot with Sofia Valentine was used to introduce her during an item about sex and bondage.

Fobiac was a Dutch program where three presenters faced their fears. In this episode the presenters confronted their fear of sex. I tied one of the presenters and then joined the conversation about fear and being tied up.

Red Carpet was a program made for Croatian television company Nova TV. This edition was devoted to RopeMarks: a documentary about the life of RopeMarks and its activities, centered on an interview and also showing some of the rope work.

For Kamasutra TV, a Dutch nighttime program, we filmed two sessions at the Kamasutra erotic fair. One used a dance pole in an alternative way; the second used a motorbike as part of the rope setting.

Generation Sex was a British television program about modern sexuality. Our participation involved guiding a young couple into the world of BDSM and bondage.

The Dutch national program Spuiten en Slikken had an item where viewers could send in questions about sex-related subjects. This time the question was about bondage, and we were brought in to help answer it.

We participated in the six-part TV series Geloof, Sex en (Wan)hoop, which explored the sexual landscape of the Netherlands. Our participation showed bondage as part of Dutch sexual exploration.

The Dutch national program Spuiten en Slikken ended its television season with a national sex and drugs IQ test. We were invited to perform and give a short interview.

The people from Kamasutra TV asked if one of our demonstrations at the Kamasutra fair could be filmed and aired during an episode of the Dutch national nighttime program. We agreed.

While we were at the Kamasutra fair we received an invitation to appear on Jensen!, a popular Dutch talk show. My contribution consisted of an interview and a rope demonstration.

Bizar & Bijzonder made portraits of people whose passions were considered unusual. This edition featured RopeMarks and shibari, centered on me and my work. The core was an interview, with rope work shown as part of the portrait.

BNN contacted us for its youth-oriented program Spuiten en Slikken. They wanted us to present an item about shibari, and after discussing the possibilities we agreed to take part.

At the 2005 edition of La Nuit Demonia in Paris, Spanish TV station Nosolomusica approached us for an interview about bondage, shibari and our kinbaku. The resulting program was dubbed in Spanish.

This clip is from our first television performance. To the best of our knowledge it was the first time a shibari / kinbaku style suspension had been shown on national Dutch television.

Party Crash filmed us near the end of an erotic fair. Although we were tired after two days of rope work, we still wanted to show a suspension and chose a position that was relatively easy for Chantal.

Long after the original broadcast I saw a rerun of a Law & Order episode and recognized one of my photographs being used in the investigation. Rewinding the scene showed that two RopeMarks photographs had been printed and used in the episode.
