Antwerp, Belgium

Onawa Asobi Europe is one of the key rope events on the continent. It gathers kinbaku lovers from all over Europe and brings in a significant group of Japanese practitioners. The result is a weekend where tradition, technique, and personal style come together in one place.

In 2024 I was invited to participate in the Antwerp edition. Being asked meant a lot. Onawa Asobi has a strong reputation and being part of the lineup is a recognition I do not take lightly.

For this performance I asked the Shady Lady to join me as my model. Her presence fits my work. She brings honesty, attitude and the ability to meet the rope exactly as it is given.

Our performance

We were scheduled right before the final act of the event, respected Japanese performer “Coach” closed the festival. Being placed as the European closing act was an honor. It set a clear tone for what we brought to the stage.

Our show was simple and direct. RopeMarks as people know it: no polishing, no pretending. Just rope, connection and a model who meets the moment with me.

Why this event stands out

Onawa Asobi Europe has a specific energy.
Quiet focus, people watching each other tie, Japanese and European styles blending in the same room. It creates an atmosphere you do not find in many places.

Antwerp delivered exactly that. A room full of people who care about rope not as a trend but as craft, art and personal expression.

Closing thoughts

I left Antwerp grateful. Events like this remind me why I have been working in rope for so many years. It is not about chasing perfection. It is about presence, intention and building something real with the person in front of me.
