The Workshop

Level: Beginner / strong beginner
Prerequisite:
rigger: single column ties, double column ties and frictions are your bread and butter (these will not be explained anymore).
model: you are able to recognize and communicate good/bad bodily sensations. .

This full-day workshop aims to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to practice safe, sane, and consensual kinbaku. Our goal is to help you create a safe and shared experience that will empower you to continue applying what you’ve learned once you return home.

The gote is a classic element of traditional Japanese bondage, known as kinbaku. Since RopeMarks adheres to and teaches this tradition, we prioritize imparting the techniques and knowledge required for tying your model’s arms behind their back in the gote style. There’s no single “correct” gote; the best one is the one that suits your model. We believe almost everyone can be comfortable in a gote-based tie.

During this workshop, you’ll be tying on a bamboo. There are various ways to tie off uplines, but which method do you choose and when? We will guide you through several exercises to help you understand these choices.

Next, we’ll apply the knowledge of the gote and uplines to three floor ties, progressively making them more intricate. Along the way, we’ll introduce you to a variety of smaller ties for added fun.

By the end of this workshop, both riggers and rope models will have advanced to a solid beginner/intermediate skill level.

Recommended precursor workshop is our Ryu #0, kinbaku foundations workshop.
Recommended follow up workshop is our Ryu #2, Kinbaku workshop, static suspensions.
