In rope terminology, the working end and running end of a rope are essentially the same: the end being actively used to tie a knot or hitch.
One Japanese term that I’ve seen used us “nawa jiri, the end of the rope in our hand.

The standing end is the opposite, fixed or non-working end. It’s the part of the rope not directly involved in the knot-tying process.
