I have been a fan of Robert K. Bishop’s work for many years. Bishop (1945–1991) was an American bondage artist whose illustrations appeared extensively through House of Milan during the 1970s and 1980s. His mostly monochrome work combined technical detail, elaborate restraints and a very particular dark imagination that I appreciate.
One of the many images that I appreciate: a woman restrained and transformed into a living floor lamp while a man casually sits beneath her reading.
I went ahead and brought Bishop’s drawing into the real world.
This is my tribute to that image: the original artwork, my recreation, and some behind the scenes imagery that turned this wonderfully strange piece of bondage art into something physical.
